Function

The Geoweb system consists of a robust three-dimensional structure housing a network of interconnected cells that confine and compact soil. The confinement action prevents erosion and improves the structural performance of the soil or aggregate infill providing an alternative to reinforced concrete or armour. The Geoweb cellular confinement system comes in collapsed, lightweight panels which can be handled easily and safely onsite.

Applications

Load support & porous pavements

Geoweb’s soil confinement system can be used to increase the load capacity in areas with high traffic or heavy use, ideal for permanent and temporary access roads that need to be constructed over soft ground.

Slope & embankment stability

Geoweb creates a series of small check-dams along the soil surface, preventing the downward migration of the soil and the creation of rills and gullies. The system also promotes vegetation because it prevents soil loss and increases structural stability. The Geoweb cellular confinement system is usually installed with a layer of bidim nonwoven geotextile for separation and filtration and added stability.

Channel lining, retarding basins & erosion prevention

Because the soil or other fill material is confined, the structure is more erosion-resistant and is successfully used to improve channel stability. Geoweb helps to mobilise the channel and reduces the impact of high pressure water.

Rail track stabilisation

In areas of soft subsoils the Geoweb cellular confinement system can help create high-stiffness roadbed foundations under track and at bridges approaches, diamonds and turn outs. Ballast confined within the three dimensional structure of Geoweb creates a stiffened slab which increases load bearing capacity and minimises horizontal and vertical movement. The perforated structure of Geoweb allows lateral drainage of water from within the ballast.

This results in significant improvement in long term performance and decreases the amount of foundation material required by up to 50%.

Advantages

  • The Geoweb geocell cellular confinement system is manufactured to ISO 9001 quality standards. Its robust UV resistant structure is ideal for use in harsh environments.
  • The Geoweb system can be installed quickly, particularly through the use of the patented ATRA Key connection system or high strength tendons, saving on installation costs.
  • It is an eco-friendly soil stabilisation solution that blends into the natural environment.
  • Its strong, three-dimensional structure means it can easily withstand construction activities.
  • With different types of infill, perforations allow infill to interlock with the cell walls, increasing frictional resistance, creating a better armoured slope.
  • In saturated conditions, the removal of excess water increases infill friction, reducing down slope sliding forces, resulting in a more stable system.

Installation

The Geoweb geocell cellular confinement system panels are laid out and contractor friendly ATRA Keys, and where required high strength tendons, are used to anchor the cellular panes into position. ATRA Keys are used to provide a full strength connection between adjacent panels of Geoweb geocell cellular confinement system. To complete the system a range of infill materials can be used including topsoil with various selected vegetation, aggregates from sand and gravel to larger stone and concrete of various strengths and finishes.
